Musk’s xAI Sues Former Engineer Over Alleged Theft of Grok AI Secrets
Elon Musk's artificial intelligence venture, xAI, has filed a lawsuit against former engineer Xuechen Li, accusing him of stealing confidential materials related to Grok, the company's AI chatbot. The complaint, lodged in a California federal court, alleges Li downloaded proprietary files before joining OpenAI and sold $7 million worth of xAI stock in July.
The legal battle underscores growing tensions in the AI sector as companies vie for talent and intellectual property. xAI seeks monetary damages and a restraining order to prevent Li from working at OpenAI, though the latter is not named as a defendant. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI before becoming one of its most vocal critics, is separately suing the company over alleged mission drift.
